The world of human resources is constantly changing. Everywhere we turn there are new studies, new perspectives, and new policies to be aware of. Then there are the trends that come and go faster than anyone can implement. Is it even possible to keep up? If so, how?
Enter the HR Blogosphere!
There are thousands of HR blogs out there, each with a unique perspective on the profession. Great blogs provide insight on research, examples of how to implement policy, tried and true best practices (cliche alert!), and of course, plenty of opinion.
To make sense of it all, start with this list of 10 blogs. To create this list, I listed 4 or 5 of my favorites, and then filled out the rest of the list with a few from Bamboo HR’s List of Top 25. All listed, are highly read, highly shared, informative and entertaining blogs.
Check out the list (alphabetically):
- Blogging for Jobs
- Everyday People
- Fisftul of Talent
- HR Bartender
- HR Capitalist
- HR Ringleader
- Laurie Ruettimann
- Steve Boese’s HR Technology
- We Know Next
10 blogs may seem like a lot to take on, especially if you’re checking these out for the first time. 10 blogs means multiple posts, every single day (even weekends). If you set out to read all of them, you’d quickly be overwhelmed with all the information, and you probably wouldn’t be getting a lot of work done. It’s like trying to drink water from a fire hose (cripes, that’s cliche number two).
The great thing is that blogs are designed to be consumed in a number of different ways. Options include email subscriptions, RSS feeds, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn feeds, and yes, even Google+.
There are also a number of tools out there that can help make sense of everything coming your way. Personally, I like Flipboard, Zite, Tumblr, and StumbleUpon. Each of these is probably worthy of a blog post on its own; look for more on these in future posts.
The bottom line is that you don’t have to read everything that comes our way. But you SHOULD do whatever it takes to be made aware of what these awesome blogs are posting. You may decide that a particular post isn’t your thing and skip out on it, but at the very least you’ll know what got posted.
No doubt I’ve left out A TON of worthy blogs, but I highly doubt the title “34 blogs Every HR nerd Should Follow” would have worked. My advice is to start with these 10 blogs. Get a feel for what they deliver. Over time you’ll find a few that work for you, weed out the ones that don’t, and even discover a few blogs on your own.
Embrace you inner HR nerd. Enter the blogosphere with confidence, get involved in the conversations taking place, and then turn around and use that information to do great things at work.
