Video: 5 Human Activities You Can See From Space

When I fly (and can snag a window seat), I am always astounded by the amount of land you can see from the air.

Usually, however, that astonishment shifts a bit when I realize just how much we (humanity) have shaped the planet. It is often impossible to see a part of the earth that is untouched from the air. Almost everywhere, and in all directions you can see obvious physical evidence of our existence, even over areas that you thought were protected or untouched.

This video reminded me of that perspective. It shows how we’ve changed the planet over the course of 40 years, and it proves that I’m going to have to look a lot harder to see an untouched landscape from my window seat on my next flight:
