Only 4 and ½ work days until winter break. But hey, who’s counting?
It’s not like all that stands between me and some serious time off are the craziest, busiest, most unexpectedly stressful days of the work year. You know, the days where you have a plan, and then that plan is immediately dashed in favor of whatever it takes to get through the day in one piece? You know, the days where you think you will get everything done, only to discover that some oversight somewhere along the way means that you have to take on an unexpectedly large task at the last minute???
But it will all work out. As a former colleague used to say, “this ain’t my first rodeo”.
Come to think of it, this is my seventh “rodeo”. Oh my.
So tomorrow when the going gets tough, I’ll maintain the demeanor of “been there, done that, hun”, because odds are, I have “been there, done that, hun”.
You see, craziness the last week of the year is just part of the game.
To continue mixing metaphors, it’s like being on a plane when the pilot announces that “we’re probably going to encounter a bit of bumpy air”. Only the pilot means that we are FOR SURE going to encounter some bumpy air and that there’s not a thing you can do about it except manage your reaction to it.
So, that’s my simple goal for this week.
Get the work done. Manage the bumpy air. Get to winter break.
