Put Some Good Into The World

When the world has gone mad, when the news cycle is more hurtful than helpful, respond with work that makes a difference. You might feel small in comparison to the issues of the day, but what you do makes an impact that reaches far beyond the reality of the effort involved.

Choose to put some good into the world.

Here’s how:

  • Volunteer with a local non-profit.
  • Give time, money, energy, or donations to a local food bank.
  • Volunteer with your local community college or university.
  • Give time, money, and energy to organizations that are leading the way on diversity and inclusion.
  • Work with organizations that respond to disasters, natural or manmade.

Or more personally…

  • Mentor someone.
  • Help someone who hasn’t had the opportunity to ask.
  • Thank someone for the subtle, amazing things they do every day.
  • Allow yourself to be mentored.

And finally…

  • Organize your co-workers, friends, and family to do the same!

If you’re already putting some good into the world, know that you make a difference. Every minute you give, every dollar, and every effort helps someone in need. You are creating a better tomorrow for someone else, and that better tomorrow leads to better lives, which leads to a better society and a better world.

In the long run, you stand to benefit from what you give. We all do.

So when times are tough, when the news feels more hopeless than hopeful, remember that while you may not be able to control events, you always have control over how you choose to respond.

Choose to put some good into the world.
